sewing bag make-over

These bags are so handy to have beside you while you are sewing. I received one a few years ago and while it serves it's purpose I was not crazy about the original fabrics. See below for proof:

Yikes, a little to cutesy and cliche for me! So for my new bag I chose a pretty floral and coordinating green print that I already had in my stash.

So much better in my opinion! To have somewhat of a pattern I cut apart the old one and loosely used it  to construct my own version, it is slightly different but I am still really happy with it. To give it some weight there is a ceramic tile wrapped in batting for the top base and a plastic cord, like you sometimes see around boxes in a grocery store, around the opening in the bag.

A small pin cushion is glued on top for easy accessibility and a magnetic strip is glued beneath that so you have a safe place to put your hand sewing needles without losing them. I have been meaning to do this project for ages and I have no idea why it took me so long, it's time to tackle more of my 'someday crafts'!
